24 septembre 2012 - 25 septembre 2012
Wageningen, The Netherlands
BioRubber for Europe in Global Perspective]] will bring together researchers, industry representatives and policymakers from Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, interested in the development of alternative sources of natural rubber.
The congress is organized by the EU-PEARLS consortium to mark the end of the FP7 EU-PEARLS research project EU-based production and exploitation of alternative rubber and latex sources, It will be an excellent opportunity to report on and discuss alternative sources of natural rubber as :
- a strategic fallback option, in case current threats to Hevea rubber become reality: South American Leaf Blight, climate change, or high labor costs
- an additional source of natural rubber, in case the market demand cannot be satisfied by Hevea rubber
- a source of rubber with new properties providing commercial opportunities
The themes will include germplasm collection, breeding, biochemistry and genetics of rubber biosynthesis, agronomy, processing, product development, by-products, socioeconomic aspects (policies, consequences for labor market, rural areas, and other issues relevant to the introduction and market chances of alternative crops).
